About this product:
- A transparent, water-based crackle medium – used between two paint layers, so that as the top layer dries, craquelure forms (fine, natural cracks in the paint) through which the base coat shows through;
- Perfect for the napkin technique (decoupage) – a classic choice for giving your piece an antique, vintage look and imitating the craquelure of aged surfaces;
- Versatile use – suitable for wood, metal, glass, terracotta, canvas, ceramics, porcelain, and modelling compounds;
- Controllable crack pattern – a thicker top paint layer produces larger, more pronounced cracks, while a thin layer creates fine ones; the direction of your brushstrokes (straight or circular) also shapes the pattern of the craquelure.
How to use:
- Prime the surface with Marabu Decormatt or Decorlack; dry with a hairdryer;
- Apply an even layer of Krakelee-Medium; dry with a hairdryer;
- Quickly apply a top layer of Decormatt or Decorlack (except metallic, bronze, or pearlescent shades) – the crackle effect (craquelure) will appear instantly. Leave to dry for at least 1 hour;
- If desired, continue decorating with the napkin technique – you can glue your chosen motif onto the aged-look background, or simply leave the surface as it is.
